The Miller Family
Submitted by Bob Miller

My name is Robert T. Miller. I am a 6th generation descendant of German settler Heinrich & Catherine Long Miller. Heinrich and his first wife, came to Philadelphia in 1752 on the Snow Ketty, commanded by Theopolis Barnes. The ship docked 10-16-1752 after a 6 month trip from Rotterdam, via the Rhine River and Portsmouth, England. Heinrich, we believe is buried in the York area, but unsure. Their first son , George Miller Sr., (1st Gen) born 5-5-1776 in York, Pa. and he and his wife Mary Greybill, are buried in the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetary, 3 miles North of Buttonwood, and just south of Liberty, Pa. They are the 1st generation American Millers. Heinrich lost his 1st wife, also named Catherine. They lived in the York area. His 2nd wife, was Catherine Long, & they married in Derry, Lancaster County, 11-10-1770. Catherine's parents were Johanese & Maria Long, who came to Philadelphia on the ship "Lisbon", 10-7-1749. Catherine's brother, George, was a drummer boy in the Revolutionary war. George Long's son, Samuel Long, settled in Jackson Township, Lycoming County. George Miller, Sr.(1st Gen) married Mary Greybill, who was born in York in 3-19-1778. John F. Meginnes reports in his book, "History of Lycoming County, 1892, that George Miller Sr. and his wife Mary Greybill came to Newberry TWP in 1811 & Jackson Twp in 1817, with 9 children, eventually. He was an old line whig and a Lutheran in Religion. Mary died 9-27-1838 in Jackson Twp. Her husband, George Miller Sr. died 11-16-1854. Their 6th child, George Miller Jr, (2nd Gen) was born 3-18-1805 and married Nancy Kehler, born 1808, the daughter of Abraham Kehler. George Miller Jr. died at the age of 30, 6-6-1835. Abraham Kehler, Nancy's Dad, owned a store in Liberty. Abraham Kehler's father was Mathias Kehler (Koehler) who arrived in Philadelphia 9-27-1749 on the ship "Isaac", commanded by Robert Mitchell. George Miller Jr. & Nancy Kehler Miller had 5 children & stayed in Jackson Twp. Their 3rd child, Abraham Kehler Miller, (3rd Gen) is my great-grandfather. He was born 11-4-1832. No record of Nancy Kehler's death exists. She is not buried in Frieden's Cemetary. Also George Miller Jr. & Nancy Kehler's 5th child, George Miller, III, do not show a death record. George III was born 2-7-1836. His age in the Civil War, may have made him an MIA casualty in that conflict. Abraham Kehler Miller (3rd Gen) married his first wife, Mary Maneval on 8-31-1856. They travelled to Eden Prairie, Hennepin County Minnesota in a "Wagon Train", in 1857. The book "Eden Prairie, the 1st Hundred Years, reports the community's first town meeting, 5-11-1858. Abraham Kehler Miller was elected Tax Collector and Constable. An 1870 Plat Book shows he owned 80 acres, about 1/2 mile from City Hall. They had 5 children. Abraham Kehler Miller was a Civil War veteran, serving 1-1-1865 to 9-27-1865 with the 1st Regiment of the Heavy Artillery, Minnesota Volunteers. Two infants died at a very young age on 9-26-1873 and 9-26-1875? Mary Maneval is reported to have died on 10-6-1875 from "Consumption". Seems a bit odd! Abraham Kehler Miller (3rd Gen) married his second wife, Anna Mary Taylor, January 1876, at the town of Dassel, Meeker County Minnesota. Anna Mary Taylor was born 7-5-1850. They had 6 additional children. Their 4th child, Robert Lewis Miller (4th Gen) is my grandfather. He was born 10-29-1879. In 1876 Abraham Kehler Miller (3rd Gen) travelled to Morrison County, and filed a homestead in Swan River Township. In 1892 Abraham Kehler Miller and his wife Anna Mary Taylor moved to Little Falls, Rail Prairie Twp., Mn. He had a Civil War Pension. An 1898 Census shows him oddly living in Jackson County, Independence, Missouri? His wife Anna Mary was an invalid by age 48, and the census showed that Abraham Kehler was part of the time, "In The Same Fix", and changing climates so as to "have a little comfort". Anna Mary Taylor died 4-10-1906. Abraham Kehler Miller entered the Butte Mountain Sanitarium, Hot Springs, South Dakota 2-25-1910. Strangely married a third time to Hannah Kingsley, 10-7-1908. Robert Lewis Miller (4th Gen) is my grand-father. Married Metta Alice Summers 10-1-1906. They had 10 children. My father, Thomas Oscar Miller, (5th Gen) was a twin, and the 9th child of Robert Lewis & Metta Alice Miller. Born 10-1-1927. His twin brother, Timothy Isaac Miller, died 12-24-1928, Christmas eve of pneumonia, in Crosby, Minnesota. My Dad served in WWII as a Radio Operator on an LST off the shores of Japan from May 1945 to Dec 1947 ? He was discharged and returned to Philadelphia, attended LaSalle College & Temple University. I am Tom's 2nd child, living in the Pocono's, Gilbert, PA. (Monroe County) .
